µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø Softball Team Earns #1 Seed in Region/District Tournament

For the third year in a row, µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍønical Community College's softball team earned the #1 seed in the NJCAA Region 19 and Northeast District Division II Softball Championship Tournament. The 2023 tournament will take place May 12 and 13 at the Owens Campus in Georgetown.

µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø's first game will be against the winner of the May 9 play-in game between Lackawanna College and Salem Community College at 10 a.m. on May 12.

µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø is the two-time defending region and district champion and will be looking for a three-peat. The team finished the regular season with a 29-7-1 record, scoring 333 runs with 43 home runs on a team batting average of .408.

"The team performed very well this season," Head Coach Guy Wilkins said. "I thought we hit the ball extremely well to go along with great pitching and defense.

"My message to the team for this tournament will be to just in having fun and be loose."

µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø is led by sophomore pitcher Carly Collins who finished the season with a 12-2 record, 80 strikeouts, and a 1.89 ERA. At the plate, sophomore third baseman Macey Myers had 61 hits, 58 RBI, and batted .488, sophomore outfielder Kandice Schlabach had 50 hits, 16 home runs, 58 RBI, and batted .435, sophomore second baseman Logan Walls had 48 hits, 26 RBI, and batted .449, sophomore outfielder Megan Sterling had 47 hits, 37 RBI, and batted .500, and sophomore utility player Kylie Kruger had 49 hits, 26 RBI, and batted .405.

Throughout the season, µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø reached several historical milestones. Myers became the first player in program history to eclipse 100 career hits and 100 career RBI, while Schlabach became the first to record 25 career home runs. Walls and Kruger also each surpassed 100 career hits, becoming just the second and third players to do so since at least 2013.

"This is a great group of young ladies who have been in this spot a few times before," Wilkins said. "They all know what to do to get the job done."

The tournament will feature games at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. on May 12 and 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. (if necessary) on May 13. The second seed is Mercer County Community College and the third seed is County College of Morris.
