Jenn Wells
Visual Communications
When Jenn Wells enrolled at µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do as a career. She appreciated that the College gave her the opportunity to try out different programs so she didn’t have the pressure of committing to a major. Wells explored mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and AutoCAD classes before finding her calling – graphic design.
Upon discovering graphic design, Wells realized that “there was a technical side to art.”
Entering the visual communications program was the first time Wells said she “finally went all in” when it came to completing her associate degree. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Wilmington University and jumped into the field right away following graduation.
During her time at µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø, Wells said she was able to learn practical skills about living in the real world, as opposed to some of her friends at four-year universities.
“They weren’t ready to interview and they didn’t have a resume set up,” Wells said. “They didn’t know how to take the next step, while µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø gave me practical advice to get started in the working world.”
Additionally, Wells said she always felt connected to µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø because the instructors are “so real and give such good advice. Not just in the classroom, but towards success.”
Today, Wells is co-owner and marketing director of BrandSwan, a woman-owned creative agency in Newark, Delaware. She is also an adjunct instructor at the College, where she teaches layout design.
